Biography

Beth Hofstad's current technical support work includes: discovery of fungus that produces a novel acid to include fermentor work, enzymatic analysis, and DNA screening; enhancing current production of acids with known fungal acid producers; and assisting in genetic screening for morphology modifications/enhancement through gene modifications. Some of her other work has involved technical support in an Endocrine Disruptor project that included working with radioactive labels, tracing androgen and estrogen disturbance. Ms. Hofstad has also been involved with prokaryotic and eukaryotic molecular biology projects to include cell culture procedures, restriction enzyme analysis, gel electrophoresis, PCR, DNA extraction from bacteria, gene cloning, vector construction, E. coli and agrobacterium transformations, E. coli fermentation, plant propagation, protein extraction, and purification techniques. Other bioremediation technical skills include analytical procedures; operating GC and IC systems; maintaining and upgrading analytical instrumentation; proper sampling preparation; and quality control procedures.
